Westway23 Fundraiser @ mau mau bar
A NIGHT OF RESISTANCE
A night of high-voltage live music from local groups to raise funds for our community in the fight against crooked developers and corrupt local authorities.
In the Battle for London’s soul, Ladbroke Grove, Notting Hill and North Kensington are all under threat. We face losing precious community assets like Makan Cafe, West London Stables, Wornington Green Estate, Grenfell Tower and many other homes, businesses and facilities to greedy developers masquerading as community charities, and our local council who have made it clear that they serve only the wealthiest, regardless of whether they are from the community or not.
So get off your bums and on your feet and dance to the Westway Rebel Beat!!

THE HARDWAY BAND
Local legends, Bullitt and The Hardway have been providing live music for the local community for over 10 years through their weekly jams at Mau Mau Bar on Sundays. Having worked with musical icons as deep as Dennis Bovell and Paul Weller, this is a band whose heart is deep in the Grove.
BARE HUNTER (Provided by The Joe Strummer Foundation)
Bare Hunter are a group of musicians who have come together from various successful careers to create an epic musical force that hits the audience. Using sharp, slick musicianship the trio fuse muddy stripped-back Garage Rock, Voodoo Psychedelia and a Dirty Heavy Blues to rock your soul from Portobello Road to the Milky Way…
SMILEY & THE UNDERCLASS
Echoing the rebellious call to arms of The Clash and Dylan, infused with the bass-heavy vibrations of Jamaican sound system culture, Smiley & The Underclass sing the revolution blues with a burning fire largely missing from today’s music scene. With tuff lyrics and tuffer tunes, the Underclass bring the heat to awaken all Roots Rebels and Punk Rockers of this modern era…
Deadly saxy street boogie, ’70s Mott Swagger and word spiel from the gnarly Ladbroke Grove troubadours. Expect words with meaning, guitars with menacing intent and a bloodline overflowing with punk history! Taurus Trakker Bandpage
ASHEBER & THE AFRIKAN REVOLUTION
Impossible to define, ever-evolving, constantly changing. Organic is one of the best words we could find to describe the mighty Asheber & The Afrikan Revolution. Drawing on elements of Hip-Hop, Reggae and Jazz, their roots are indisputably and unapologetically African. A collective of musicians led by local activist and musical shaman, Asheber, this is a group which strikes fear into the heart of Babylonians everywhere.
THE ROTTEN HILL GANG
Local nutjobs, guitar terrorists and spike-tongued wordsmiths: Rotten Hill Gang are stalwarts of late-night smokey rooms and dank basements throughout London. With their fluid lineup and frequent special guests (Mick Jones of The Clash, various Sex Pistols, Hollie Cook), audiences never know who or what to expect. Although it’s fair to say it’ll be loud.

The man behind two of the UK’s most inspired reggae labels, as well as the go-to-guy in London town for dubs, remixes and re-licks, Nick Manasseh is a name synonymous with Sound System followers world-wide for his pioneering work over the years. Launching his sound with friends from the Shepherds Bush area in 1985, Manasseh has since gone on to work with some of the all-time greats in Jamaican music (Johnny Osbourne, Vin Gordon, Earl 16, Willie Williams) as well as home-grown UK artists currently shaking up the scene (Brother Culture, Cate Ferris, Dark Angel). Setting the foundation with Riz Records (co-founded with Tuff Scout’s Gil Cang) and treading new paths with his label Roots Garden Records, Manasseh will be guarenteed to make the floor quake!
