At the age of 15 after experimenting with various instruments, I recorded with my first professional bands; ‘Mellow ‘n’ Roots’ and also ‘691’. In the former, I also played Bass guitar, Drums and Keyboards on recording projects and in the latter I played Bass guitar only. The ‘691’ band featured Andy ‘Shovell’ Lovell who went on to embark on a successful career with ‘M-People’, ‘Spider’, formerly a solo artist with who had a successful career whilst signed to ‘10 Records’ and singer, actress and playwright JB Rose
During the next five years, I toured the U.K extensively with a total of 11 bands and during my time off, I studied some music Theory under Laurence Canty at Goldsmiths College and was involved in a Bass & Drum workshop there and also at Lewisham College with Deirdre Cartwright formerly one of the presenters of the BBC’s ‘Rock School’. In this period of study, I also began learning composition under the watchful eye of pianist Bruce Cole who was then one of the co-founders of the Lewisham Academy of Music (which is now known as the Midi Music Project) and iis now Head of Music at York University.
Since this period, I have received several solo commissions composing for theatre, dance and comedy productions etc… (*) including composing and performing the music, backing tracks and sound effects for the actress Llewella Gideon’s debut theatre performance of her own material “You Know Dem Way Deh”, composing and performing the music for the “Ekwueme Theatre Company” “Moods and Feelings” (a mixture of sequenced and live music). To this day, I have continued to tour, record, write and produce with and for a wide range of artists from the relatively unknown, to the internationally celebrated covering many styles including Soul, Gospel, Reggae, Dance, Jazz, Soukous, Jit, High Life, Traditional West African, Rock and Pop etc… as well as releasing on my own productions. I am also a featured guest player on the ‘Soundjunction’ project hosted by ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)
